Getting There

To get to Central Europe from the US, visitors have a choice of several national and US airlines. Most countries are served on non-stop flights from major US airports.   

Austria

Austrian is flying nonstop from the U.S. to Vienna from the gateway city of New York (JKF), Chicago and Washington DC, and Delta Airlines has non-stop connections from Atlanta to Vienna. The national carrier also maintains a broad network of inter-European flights.

Vienna International Airport is 12 miles from the capital, and super-fast train service connects the airport to the city.

The Czech Republic

CSA Czech Airlines operates daily flights from New York to Prague. The national carrier also maintains an extensive network of inter-European flights. Also US airline Delta Airlines, in cooperation with Czech airline CSA, will launch a direct flight connecting the Prague airport with the airport in Atlanta. Starting from May 2007.

Prague International Airport is 11 mi. from the city center, with minibus and taxi transport available to the city center.

Germany

Lufthansa and Air Berlin offer daily domestic flights throughout Germany and to many neighboring Central European countries. Other airlines with nonstop service include American, Continental, Condor, Delta,  Northwest/KLM, Singapore Airlines, United and US Airways.

New nonstop services are now available to Hamburg aboard Continental from New York, as well as Berlin aboard Continental and Delta from New York.

Major international airports include Frankfurt, Munich, Duesseldorf, Berlin-Tegel and Stuttgart, all of them are well connected to the city centers.

Hungary

Malev Hungarian Airlines and and Delta offer nonstop service from New York JFK to Budapest, as well as service to some three-dozen European cities.

The Ferihegy International Airport is 6 mi. (30 to 50 min travel) from the city center.

Poland

LOT Polish Airlines flies nonstop Warsaw and Krakow from New York, Chicago and Toronto, and the national carrier also serves all Central European capitals. There are no direct flights with any US airline into Poland, but connecting flights from any major airline through all the major European cities are available.

Okecie International Airport is 5 miles from central Warsaw.

Slovakia

No airline flies nonstop transatlantic to Slovakia. The closest international gateway is Vienna, whose airport is 31 miles from Bratislava. Czech Airlines offers flights from Prague to Bratislava, Kosice, Sliac and soon to Zilina; Lufthansa from Munich to Bratislava; Austrian Airlines to Kosice; and SkyEurope has extensive service from many European cities to Bratislava and Kosice and Easy Jet flies from Berlin to Bratislava.

Bratislava Airport is five miles from the city.
