Hiking
Hungary is prepared to welcome its visitors to discover our about 6000 miles of safe, marked hiking trails, mostly in hilly or rolling country, with shorter sections on the plains. Our national hiking trails have been integrated into the network of long-range European trails and have become a part of the E3, E4 and E7 transcontinental hiking trails.
The most important Hungarian hiking trail – the national blue trail - starts from the Austrian-Hungarian border.
Biking
Cycling tours offer a lot of beauties through the variegated landscape. There is a route to suit ones taste. The trails lead through national monuments, shrines, medicinal spas and wine regions. Hungary has ten National Parks, all of which can be explored by bicycle but only using the designated paths. The 100 mile-long Mecsek-Villány tour, or the Fertő (Neuslider) Lake - Őrség (foot of the Alps) trail leads bikers to historic places, wine regions and protected areas. On the Great Plain nature lovers can choose the Tisza river tour and puszta lovers at Hortobagy can try their skill on earth path.
There are 12 biking routes, many of them are connected to European trails, towards Austria and Slovakia. Bikes can be rented in most places and can be transferred by train to areas have not been connected to the main trails. From March to August several biker programs, festivals are held in historical and nature sites.
