Karlovy Vary (Carlsbad)

In a country committed to the spa experience, this resort is its largest and most prominent spa town, one that grew up in a 14th century town built around a dozen mineral springs - 12 hot and one cold - along side the Tepla River in Bohemia. A combination of beautiful 18th and 19th century buildings and tried-and-true curative spa treatments have lured the likes of composers Beethoven and Dvorak, Czar Peter the Great, Whoopi Goldberg and Barbra Streisand to this western corner of the country.
